Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets out what you may and may not do when using ScholarBits at scholarbits.com (the “Service”), operated by the Foresight Institute of Research and Translation. This AUP forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Permitted Uses
ScholarBits is designed for legitimate academic research tasks, including:
- Formatting and fixing citations and bibliographies
- Drafting, editing, and improving academic text
- Generating figures, tables, and diagrams for research papers
- Screening and reviewing academic literature
- Processing and analysing PDF documents for research purposes
- Organising research materials and notes
2. Prohibited Uses
You may not use the Service in any manner that:
2.1 Violates laws or regulations
- Violates any applicable local, national, or international law
- Infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party (e.g., submitting copyrighted text you do not have rights to process)
- Involves the processing of personal data in a manner that violates applicable data protection laws
2.2 Harms the Service or other users
- Uses automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to scrape, mirror, or excessively query the Service
- Attempts to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
- Circumvents, disables, or interferes with security features or access controls
- Overloads our infrastructure in a way that degrades performance for other users (e.g., denial-of-service attacks)
- Introduces malware, viruses, or malicious code
2.3 Produces harmful content
- Generates or facilitates content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory
- Uses AI features to produce academic misconduct outputs (e.g., contract cheating, fabricated citations submitted as genuine)
- Creates content that promotes illegal activity or violence
2.4 Misuses the freemium model
- Creates multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limits or trial periods
- Resells or sub-licenses access to the Service without our permission
3. Academic Integrity
ScholarBits tools are intended to assist researchers — not to replace genuine scholarly work. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of tool outputs complies with the academic integrity policies of your institution, publisher, or funder. We do not accept liability for academic misconduct resulting from misuse of our tools.
4. Enforcement
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations of this AUP. If we determine that a violation has occurred, we may:
- Issue a warning
- Suspend or permanently terminate your account
- Remove or disable access to specific features
- Report the conduct to law enforcement or other relevant authorities where required
5. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of a violation of this AUP, please report it to us at hi@scholarbits.com.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this AUP as the Service evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes.
